| Beate Rose, M.Ed., RYT
Beate teaches a heart-opening yoga to bring us into balance with our body, mind and spirit, and with the world around us. She loves yoga and has studied it for more than 15 years, with over 8 years of teaching experience. Beate was trained in a three - year long program in Integrative Hatha Yoga at the Sebastian Kneipp Institute for Holistic Health in Germany, and in therapeutic yoga at Kripalu. She is recognized as a registered Yoga teacher at the 500 hour advanced level through the Yoga Alliance.

Her style is influenced by the principles of Anusara Yoga, which emphasizes precise alignment, and the inner experience of the pose. Beate blends vinyasa flow, linking breath with flowing movements, with therapeutic yoga to ensure safety in the poses. Her classes offer a safe environment, where each student's various abilities and limitations are deeply respected and honored. To deepen her spiritual practice she traveled intensively in Asia, where she studied meditation and Thai Massage in Sri Lanka and Thailand. She is certified in Traditional Thai Massage at the International School of Thai Massage in Chiang Mai. Before she moved to Newport News, she worked for many years as a professional counselor and workshop leader in Germany. Beate conducts workshops which combine yoga, meditation, and psychology to offer a holistic program for personal growth and healing.

" Heart Flow Yoga helps us to remember to move from our own inner essence, which according to all spiritual traditions dwells in the heart. When we move from this place, yoga becomes meditation in motion and we create balance and harmony in body, mind, and spirit. Taking this awarness into our daily life helps us look at life with freshness, embracing whatever arises with acceptance and compassion. "—Beate Rose
| Joy Thompson, RYT
Joy Thompson, BS, RYT, has practiced yoga for more than 14 years, and is certified by Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, MA, the country’s largest residential yoga center. A member of the Yoga Alliance as well as the International Association of Yoga Therapists, Joy is currently working toward her 500-hour certification and has studied with Gary Kraftsow, Ann Green, and other leading teachers in the field of Yoga Therapy.

For the past three years, Joy has taught group and individual yoga classes, as well as private therapeutic yoga sessions, in Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown, and Williamsburg. In May, 2005, she taught a workshop on “Yoga and Stress Management” for the Hampton Healthy Families Partnership.

In her classes, Joy guides her students through yoga postures designed to develop structural alignment and release chronic tension. This release of tension frees the body to experience the energizing and strengthening aspects of yoga. Guided breathing exercises focus and calm the mind, leading to greater mental clarity and concentration. Each class concludes with a guided relaxation to foster a sense of overall well-being.
